Day 54 of 57: Mod Bod, Green Scheme

    On day 54 of 57 Days of Dresses Jason and I had lunch at one of our favorite downtown eateries, Rosetta's Kitchen. Jason got the "Family Favorite:" a tasty plate of peanut butter baked tofu, mashed potatoes with gravy, greens (usually kale) and a generous slice of hot cornbread (pretty much a "meat and three" dish without the meat), and I got a big bowl of seaweed salad. If you're ever in Asheville and you need a place to eat, go to Rosetta's.
    Besides being an awesome and homey vegan/vegetarian restaurant, it recently added an "Everybody Eats" sliding scale meal. Hungry patrons short on cash can come in an pay anywhere from $2-$6 and get a generous serving of brown rice, the day's beans and a side of tortilla chips or slaw. That means a family of four could potentially walk in and eat for under $10. I admire how Rosetta's Kitchen really puts their motto, "Feeding the Family Right" to work in the community.
Considering the greater Asheville area has been ranked nationally as the third worst area for food hardship, perhaps this is a restaurant trend that can catch on. Kudos to Rosetta's Kitchen for helping to keep the community fed.
    Besides a happy visit to Rosetta's, the weather was perfect for a photo shoot!
    So, I know this is suppose to be the "winter edition," but, as we've all probably been experiencing, there hasn't been much of a winter, and these past two dress days are proof. I suppose the first official day of spring is March 20, so, au sortir de l'hiver.
     This is a fabulous vintage mod mini that I found at a local thrift store. This A-line mini has a beautiful floral pattern that stacks on top of itself. The dress is sleeveless and has a jewel neckline. The waist has belt loops that I have set off with a solid white belt. Did I say this dress is tiny! It's very short, even experimentally short, but those '60s were wild times. The hem is falling down is some areas, but that'll be an easy fix. Long live the dress.

day 43 of 57: Bed-time Country Western

    So on day 43 of 57 we took the little rescued Shih Tzu to the Humane Association when it opened, and I went to work for the first time in nearly 2 weeks. I hope my little buddy finds his people, but if not, maybe he'll find a new home with me? I guess we'll have to wait and see. Well, After a long day of doing - I usually have long days of doing - and not making it out to my friend's show because I was just exhausted, the last thing done before tucking myself in for the night was taking pictures of the day's dress with my childhood stuffed animal friend, "Bunny"--creative name, I know.
    This is a shirt dress Jason got me at Hip Replacements in Asheville, NC. This is such a flirty little mini dress. It has a Country-Western flair that I really like. The dress is olive green with contrasting floral print that capes around the shoulder line, upper back and under the collar, and pipes along the skirt hem and the cuffs. All of the buttons also coordinate with the same floral material. The dress has a empire waist, and the bodice has 2 breast pockets. There's an exposed yellow side zipper too. All I can say is this dress is hot!

 

day 38 of 57: Late night flat

   So on day 38 of 57 Days of Dresses, Jason and I were gallivanting the streets of downtown Asheville, and came across this perfect pile of tires by the side of an auto repair shop. Looks like a great place for a photo shoot.
    This is a vintage 1980s shirt dress I got at Thriftsmart for $5 - what a find! It's in pristine condition, and still has its matching belt, which you can see in the photos. The tea-length skirt is ruffled and has pockets, and the 3/4 bat sleeves have a buttoned cuff, which I have turned up. The front buttons form a V-neck and button from top to bottom - I like to leave a few bottom buttons open to create a pee-a-boo front slit. The bodice has 2 breast pockets, the shoulders have light padding for structure and the collar can be folded down to make a small lapel, like I've done in the photos. The fabric sports a very '80s floral/ graffiti print. I really dig this dress!

Day 31 of 57: What a dress!

    So on day 31 of 57 Days of Dresses I made vegetarian gumbo with my best girl, and fellow non-meat eater, Erin. It was 5 long hours of chopping vegetables, blanching tomatoes, washing dishes and building up a delicious summer stew! All the while I was doing it in style, wearing my awesome dress! Kudos to my best girl Erin for taking these picture for me after a hard, long evening in the kitchen. Tomorrow we're going to can the gumbo as well!
    This is a dress I got from Free People, and it is a sleeveless dress with the best pattern on it. It has a beautiful pattern, with contrasting floral design, pinstripes and pinhead polka dots. The scalloped boarders and the horizontal lines are really an aesthetic pleasure for the eyes. It has a U-neck, and the lace-up detail in the front is cute too. This dress also has pockets - 10 points! The skirt is cut like a shirttail, and the wide elastic waist (I like to set it off with a solid black waist belt) allows for the bodice to cascade over, creating a slouchy, unkempt look. I'm really happy I got this dress.

Day 24 of 57: Mini dress a gogo

    On day 24 of 57 Days of Dresses we were on our way home, and found this awesome graffiti on the side of some building off of Commerce in downtown. Needless to say, Jason and I took advantage of this awesome wall for a photo shoot.
    This is a modified vintage '80s dress I got from Olivia Scibelli at a swap party I had at my house earlier this year. The dress is black with an awesome floral pattern on it, ruched sleeves and a gathered, lattice back. The dress features a beautiful off-the-shoulder decolletage and is lightly boned for a structured bodice. The dress has a back zipper. I'm wearing a petticoat to fill out the pleated skirt. The skirt's hemline has been modified to a mini, I'm not sure how long it was originally, but I had the raw edge hemmed up after I got it.

 

day 21 of 57: Halter dress field study

     Today is day 21 of 57 Days of Dresses - almost to the halfway mark! Jason and I were in the mood for a jaunt at the Percy Warner park, and came across this enchanted field. Good thing we had the camera, because it was just the place for today's dress.
    I have on a fabulous halter dress I got at this great little vintage/ used boutique called Karma Rags in Huntsville, AL.The fabric is white with a pink floral pattern on it. Spaghetti halter straps ties in the back and the bodice has 4 large white functioning buttons that go down to a banded empire waist. The full circle skirt hits right above the knee. The back has a zip closure. I like to set off the waist with a wide waist belt. This is a great day dress, and can function well for low-key summer night time events too. Long live halter dresses!
